What is ESC110? ESC 110 "Environmental Science" is designed primarily as
an elective to meet the Natural World (NW) and the Individuals and
Society (I&S) requirements. It is a 5 credit class. ESC110 is taught during Summer, 2005 as a field based
class, where lecture material is posted on the internet and class time
is largely devoted to field trips and project development. The class
meets only 9 times. Participation in field trips and project labs are
recommended, whereas lecture material can be completed over the
internet. There will be at least 5 field trips during the 3 hour class
periods. ESC110 is taught during Spring, 2005 as an internet-based
course, where lectures are delivered over the internet. This is
particularly suited to students that live far away from campus, work, or
would find it difficult to travel to campus to view lectures for other
reasons. With the exception of the exams, the entire class can be
completed over the internet. ESC110 provides a comprehensive overview of environmental
science. By using an "earth systems" approach, students recognize
society and the environment as an interrelated system. Environmental
issues are examined throughout the course and realistic solutions are
investigated. Use of the world-wide-web will direct students to
Internet-based activities and exercises designed to expand knowledge and
teach key concepts. Lessons and notes can be reviewed on the web. We think you will enjoy this course, as well as learn a
lot about Environmental Science. We certainly enjoy teaching it to the
wide variety of students at the University of Washington. For info, contact robh@u.washington.edu, or
