NTL LTER has been funded continuously since 1981 by the National Science Foundation. Funding was recently renewed through 2014. We seek an individual who will collaborate with NTL LTER investigators from a diverse set of disciplines, including ecology, hydrology, and economics. The IM will add to NTL LTER’s strengths in scientific research, data analysis and exploration, education, outreach, cross-site synthesis and inter-site networked research. The IM is responsible for the integrity of the database and accessibility of the data for NTL researchers, collaborators in national and international networks, and the public at large. Responsibilities include overseeing the information system for NTL LTER and affiliated research programs; supervising staff; coordinating with facilities for storage of physical samples (such as the U.W. Zoology Museum); interacting with project researchers to facilitate research through information system design, data retrieval and analysis; and coordinating with the national LTER network and other networked environmental research programs for cross-site synthesis, information management, cyberinfrastructure support and strategic planning for networked research. The IM will work with faculty, staff, research trainees and graduate students, and will be involved in training scientists in use of the information management system. A PhD in an environmental science or related field with information management experience and strong analytical skills are required. Application materials, including CV and three letters of reference, should be emailed to Denise Karns (dkkarns@wisc.edu) by June 20, 2009.
